Quality healthcare is important, but our overall well-being is so much more than that. The safety of where people live, access to quality education, engagement with others, job opportunities and local options to remain active are just a few social determinants of health outside the walls of a hospital.
In 2019, St. James Parish Hospital created a 501c3 wellness foundation with the goal to drive wellness initiatives (beyond traditional healthcare) that help foster a thriving community. Our Foundation Team and Community Coalition are working toward this goal with the planning of “Bonne Vie” (French for the “good life”). Bonne Vie, a centralized hub of resources for multiple generations, seeks to be the catalyst that unites our community and empowers people to live “the good life,” not merely surviving, but thriving—physically, emotionally and spiritually. As we move forward, we are continuing to bring together partners, organizations and supporters who share our passion for improving lives in the River Parishes
While we are still in the infancy of planning, this health and wellness initiative began in 2019 with a 10-acre land purchase on the west bank. Architects have rendered the wellness center and related spaces to create a seamless transition between healthcare and wellness services. We brought together a diverse community team from many backgrounds, industries and locations across the River Parishes who have envisioned space for therapy and fitness/training; early childhood and youth programming; and community events and education - each of which can be added through a phased approach.
Bonne Vie will be located in Vacherie, LA (Highway 3127 & Champion Street)
Estimated investment $22 million
